Aesop Fabulous Face Oil Review: The Holy Grail For Dry Skin?

A Review: Is the Aesop Fabulous Face Oil a Holy Grail for Dry Skin?

I‘ve always been sceptical of using oil for your body. Call me crazy but when I think of oil, I think of the stuff you use for cooking and that stickiness you get once your fingers come in contact with the stuff. That’s why I never understood why brands would sell body oil. I’ve always loved Aesop products though. They’ve never failed to wow me and my skin so when I came across the Aesop Fabulous Face Oil, I was quite curious as to the impact it could make to my regime.

What is the Aesop Fabulous Face Oil?

Containing floral extracts, Aesop Fabulous Face Oil is a serum that is designed to provide hydrating benefits for your skin at night, while soothing dull, stressed and dry skin.

The product claims:

  • An intensely hydrating night serum
  • Helps to soothe dehydration and coarseness of the skin
  • Blended with wild Ylang Ylang and precious jasmine petal
  • Dissolves thoroughly into the skin without oily leftovers
  • Unveils softer and smoother skin in a healthy glow
  • 100% preservative-free

What Are the Key Ingredients in Aesop Fabulous Face Oil?

  • Macadamia Terbufolia Seed Oil – to moisturise and soften the skin.
  • Almond Oil – moisturise and softens the skin also.
  • Evening Primrose Oil – an antioxidant component that helps to prevent the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Camellia Japonica Seed Oil – an emollient that keeps your skin hydrated.
  • Wheat Germ Oil – helps to reduce the skin from losing water.

The Packaging

One thing I love about Aesop is their branding. The Fabulous Face Oil comes in a dark brown glass bottle that helps to protect the product from sunlight, with a black rubber dropper to dispense the product. The bottle may look small but don’t underestimate the size. A little does go a long way. I’ve always loved how minimal Aesop keeps its packaging. The bottle is a strong glass that feels luxurious and easy to use.

The Product

I’m going to do my best to describe the consistency of this oil here. It’s semi-thin, lightweight but thick at the same time. I know this doesn’t make sense but the consistency is really in the middle. It feels lightweight but thick enough to hydrate your skin without being able to feel the weight on your face. After applying this face oil on your skin, you forget that it’s there. Then when it comes to touching your face an hour later, your skin feels smooth, soft and nourished.

The Application

This product couldn’t be easier to use. The rubber dropper makes dispensing the product in your hands incredibly effortless and it’s thick consistency means you won’t need much. Aesop recommends that you apply three to five drops onto a clean face which is more than enough. For the best results, use the Aesop Fabulous Face Oil at night before you go to bed. Sometimes I like to mix this oil in with my moisturiser or apply first then leave for a few seconds before I apply moisturiser. Both methods work just as well I find.

The Bottom Line

The Aesop Fabulous Face Oil is one of Aesop’s best selling products and I can completely see why. Anybody with dry skin would understand how frustrating it is sometimes. So trust me when I say I’ve tried a LOT of hydrating products on the market. The main issue I find with the majority of hydrating products is that it’s easy to hydrate but making the hydration last is a different story. I find that once the product is applied, my skin stays moisturised for a good 30 minutes before I can no longer feel any trace of it on my skin anymore. However, with the Aesop Fabulous Face Oil, the moisture lasts. It lasts and it makes a difference which is what I look for in a good skincare product. The only drawback to this oil is that herby medicine scent which I’m sure many may love but it’s not my cup of tea. This doesn’t come as too much of an issue however as the scent diminishes after application.

In terms of price, this product isn’t considered cheap. No Aesop product is. But is the Fabulous face oil worth the price tag? Hands down. When you buy a new skincare product, you would want it to make a difference to your skin. And that’s what this face oil does. It hydrates your skin on a whole new level and that’s why I would happily put my money on this product when I run out.
